The role will work with our global team of outstanding professionals, consultants and engineers to provide our clients expert, independent advice. Role Summary:

PSC is seeking a Senior / Principal Power Systems Engineer with relevant industry experience to lead and carry out study projects across the generation, transmission and distribution sectors. Candidates' primary expertise should be in power system analysis and studies that model the behaviour of power systems and their various components under steady state and perturbed conditions.

Essential Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Power Systems Manager, the Senior Power Systems Engineer will:

  • Carry out and lead technical studies, including load flow, short circuit and stability analysis
  • Develop capability in one or more other specialised technical areas, such as earthing, protection, power quality, electromagnetic transients
  • Mentor, coach and develop junior engineers
  • Manage deliverables, schedules and budgets for client projects and studies
  • Manage client expectations through regular communications and responsiveness
  • Prepare, review and sign off detailed technical reports
  • Develop consulting proposals and their components
  • Develop and deliver presentations to clients
  • Coordinate work flows with PSC colleagues around the world
  • Assist with resource planning and management
  • Support the Power Systems Manager in business development activities by presenting PSC capabilities to existing and prospective clients
  • Serve as technical lead and/or reviewer for consulting engagements within the Power Networks service offering.

Minimum Expertise:

  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering is required, with higher degrees looked upon favourably
  • Expertise in power system analysis in generation, transmission and/or distribution systems with a minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Experience with Dynamic Studies is essential
  • Highly proficient, advanced users of PowerFactory and/orPSS/E and/orPSCAD network simulation software will be looked upon favourably, with proficiency in multiple packages preferred
  • CPEng and RPEQ qualifications desirable
  • Legally authorised to work in New Zealand

Preferred Expertise:

  • Ability to work to deadlines and exceed client expectations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - in particular, established habits of clear and unambiguous email and technical document writing, and an ability to present an argument clearly and concisely
  • Excellent presentation skills to represent PSC in industry forums, working groups and conference as well as client presentations
