Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

We have an important role in supporting the Crown in its relationships with Māori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi | The Treaty of Waitangi. The government is committed to improving services and outcomes for Māori and strengthening the Crown's relationships with Māori.

We are responsible for designing community-based systems of care, agreeing health and wellbeing plans, executing those plans, and monitoring outcomes which then feed into the design process. We work in partnership with our Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora and Hauora Maori Service colleagues to shape system-wide public health services across the motu.

The Project Manager, Kia Ora Ake and Primary Mental Health is a member of a life course team tasked with supporting the development and implementation of new models of service delivery to improve their life course area, radically improve Māori health outcomes and eliminate inequalities. The Project Manager has strong relationship management skills and includes the project management of development projects including initiation, planning, implementation, and closure phases.

As the Project Manager, Kia Ora Ake and Primary Mental Health you will support the successful implementation of the Kia Ora Ake approach for Counties Manukau. Supporting the Principal Service Development Manager, Kia Ora Ake and in partnership with Mana Whenua i Taamaki Makaurau (MWiTM), whaanau, communities, schools and Kura Kaupapa Maaori Aho Matua, the role will support the development and implementation of end-to-end Kia Ora Ake operations, support stakeholder communication and assist in the design of support functions for service delivery.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā weako | Skills and experience

  • Experience working in partnership with Mana Whenua i Taamaki Makaurau and / or Iwi-Māori Partnership Boards.
  • Minimum of five years project management experience.
  • Previous experience of change management and quality improvement.
  • A good understanding of the Mana Ake programme.
  • Clinical or education background with children aged 5 – 12 years.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with people at all levels within the public and private sectors, related industry and community interest groups and the wider national and international communities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with and for people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage delivery of projects in a large and complex environment.
  • Understanding of the dynamics of whanaungatanga.
  • Flexible approach to work, readily adaptable to new challenges.
  • Understanding of the Health and Disability Commissioner (Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights) Regulations (1996) & New Zealand Council of Healthcare Standards.
