Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Join us as a Principal Privacy Advisor & Privacy Officer leveraging your significant experience in leading privacy work programmes and acting as a Privacy Officer in complex organisations. You'll join with a broad range of privacy expertise, including advising on breaches, conducting Privacy Impact Assessments, responding to information requests, and elevating an organisation's privacy maturity.

You'll be the go-to person for responding to privacy inquiries and providing guidance to stakeholders on privacy matters in relation to the National Ticketing Programme, as well as supporting the NZTA's privacy function and maturity more broadly.

The National Ticketing Programme is a significant programme of work in partnership with NZTA and Public Transport Authorities (PTAs) throughout New Zealand to develop one common payments platform and service for all public transport in the country.

This aims to transform the way New Zealanders travel on public transport, on any mode, anywhere in the country, using card or smart devices, consolidated into one easy payment system. It is a critical part of achieving New Zealand ambitions for a safer, more sustainable land transport system.

Connecting effectively with colleagues and stakeholders in an overlapping work environment, you'll actively manage the privacy risk profile of our National Ticketing Programme and possess the ability to think beyond immediate issues. As an innovative thinker, you'll set clear strategic directions and provide solutions-focused advice. Your responsibilities will include conducting privacy awareness training and offering guidelines to ensure participants understand their privacy rights. You'll oversee the notification of privacy breaches, working closely with our stakeholders to ensure compliance with contractual and legislative obligations in relation to privacy.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Significant experience in leading a privacy work programme and acting as a Privacy Officer in a complex organisation.
  • A broad range of privacy experience including advising on privacy breaches and information requests, conducting Privacy Impact Assessments, raising an organisation's privacy maturity and general compliance advice.
  • An innovative thinker, who can think beyond the issue at hand and set a clear strategic direction for the Agency and provide solution-focused advice.
  • The ability to connect effectively with colleagues in an environment where there is overlap between the work that the teams do.
  • Experience in actively managing the privacy risk profile of an organisation in a large and complex environment.
  • Ideally 8+ years of relevant experience

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
