Job Title: Phlebotomist (Pre-analytical technician)

Where you’ll be working: Thames Hospital, Thames

The details: Casual hours


  • You will be requested to cover hours on a casual basis between 0800-1630 Monday to Friday
  • Use your phlebotomy skills to collect laboratory specimens in the hospital inpatient ward and the outpatient clinic
  • Join our small friendly team at Thames Laboratory

The role of pre-analytical technician involves the collection (phlebotomy) of laboratory specimens. This role also includes data entry and some specimen preparation for testing.

  • Specimen collection
  • Registration and pre-analytical preparation of specimens

Mōu | About you

Skills and experience you will need to be considered for the role:

  • Ideally a registered Pre-Analytical Medical Laboratory Technician or eligible for registration with the Medical Sciences Council.

Applicants without this qualification and the right attributes may also be considered and will be given full training

  • Phlebotomy experience will be advantageous
  • Flexibility to work extra hours to cover unscheduled leave is desirable
  • A people person with the ability to communicate empathetically
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of the team

Thames Hospital Laboratory is an integral part of Thames Hospital. The laboratory has a team of 13 staff including 2 permanent phlebotomists who work closely with the wider hospital community to provide a 24/7 service for the Coromandel population.
