Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

As a Pastoral Specialist within Crown Property at Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand, we are looking for people who are passionate in applying their experience and expertise to deliver work on behalf of New Zealand and our Treaty Partners. This role will be focused on the management of Crown pastoral leases on 1.2 million hectares of the most spectacular country around Te Waipounamu/the South Island including inspections, permitting, and decision-making.

This is your opportunity to use your technical, relationship and project skills to manage a portfolio of leasehold farm properties as a delegate of the Commissioner of Crown Lands. You'll enjoy working with an experienced and expert team in a collaborative environment and connecting with a range of external and internal stakeholders, Iwi, and technical subject matter experts.   

You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of leasehold farm properties from Southland to Marlborough under the Crown Pastoral Land Act 1998 (CPLA) and the Land Act 1948. You will also be playing your part in the Pastoral team as we implement the 2022 reforms to the CPLA.

Pastoral is one of six teams in the Crown Property group providing leadership and direction for Crown-owned property and looking for opportunities to maximise these assets for the benefit of New Zealanders. Day-to-day, the group manage about two million hectares of Crown land, including surplus Crown assets, commercial and residential properties, pastoral leases and forestry licences.

The role reports to the Leader of the Pastoral team in Crown Property and will work with the wider Crown Property team as well as the Commissioner of Crown Lands and his team.

 

He pūkenga tou - Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Relevant subject matter expertise and university qualifications or equivalent experience in the fields of ecology, farming, or planning and land management.
  • Proven knowledge, experience, and capability in managing complex or sensitive land related issues.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with a range of internal teams, farmers, key stakeholders, and Iwi.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills to provide information to a range of audiences.
  • Knowledge and experience of applying legislation and government policies affecting government owned land and the associated legal frameworks which enable them to operate.
  • Experience managing projects and contracts with suppliers.
  • You must have a current driver's licence.

The annual salary range for this role is: $85,000 - $100,000 dependant on skills and experience.
