Mō te tūnga | About the role

Our Intellectually Disabled Persons Health Community Teams are looking for a passionate and experienced Occupational Therapist who will play an integral role within our service working across two of our community teams: Psychiatric Service for Adults with Intellectual Disability (PSAID) and our Intellectual Disability Liaison team (IDL). Our PSAID team provides psychiatric assessment and treatment to consumers aged 18 years or older who have an intellectual disability and a comorbid or suspected psychiatric disorder. Our IDL team provides services to consumers 14 years or older who have an intellectual disability and are going through the court system.

We - re looking for a NZ Registered Occupational Therapist to work alongside other specialist staff and NGO providers to craft packages of care that enable consumers to develop crucial skills to manage their illness and to enable them to be more present and participate more meaningfully in the community.

This is a full time, permanent position but is split between PSAID Outpatients (0.5 FTE), and IDL (0.5 FTE). Hours are Monday - Friday. You - ll be based at our Hillmorton Hospital campus but will be required to travel within Canterbury (primarily Christchurch).

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Assessing new admissions and preparing reports as required;
  • Carrying out comprehensive Occupational Therapy and functional assessments including sensory assessments;
  • Liaising and consulting with residential providers to carry out therapeutic programmes;
  • Working with consumers from diverse social and cultural backgrounds and bringing your enthusiasm and passion to achieve the best outcome for your consumers.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage a varying caseload;
  • As an effective communicator you will have a positive, engaging and solution focussed attitude to your work;
  • Sound computer and technological literacy is advantageous;
  • NZ Registered Occupational Therapist with current Annual Practicing Certificate (essential);
  • Proven experience working with consumers with Intellectual Disabilities is highly desired;
  • As some community work is required in this position with the need to transport passengers, a full class driver - s license is required.
