The Faster Cancer Treatment Clinical Nurse Specialist (FCT CNS) position is a 0.6 FTE fixed term role from July 2024 – August 2025.

It is an advanced nursing practice role that is responsible for care co-ordination of patients on the High Suspicion of Cancer pathway, and patients who are have a gynaecologic cancer diagnosis that are being cared for by the General Gynaecology team.

Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

To support individuals with a gynaecologic malignancy or potential malignancy, from first consultation and to be the point of contact for these patients through their journey. The role will ensure timely access to diagnosis and treatment services and manage the prioritisation of cases and coordination the care of people with high or complex needs, including providing access to psychological and cultural support. The CNS will follow the patients through to ensure care is understood and actioned.

Further responsibilities include managing the Rapid Access Clinic (RAC), and coordinating all FCT cases and attending the Gynae Oncology multi-disciplinary meeting. The role will work closely with all services involved in the coordinated care of women receiving diagnosis of gynaecological cancers. 

The CNS role also includes the management of an ongoing patient database and follow up management.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

• We are looking for individuals who have at least 5 years gynaecology nursing experience with proven ability to work autonomously, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• You will demonstrate expert clinical skill, promote best practice, facilitate collaboration between teams and provide coaching and education
• You must have excellent communication skills and be able to navigate challenging situations.
• You will be confident in making independent recommendations, liaising and collaborating with a range of people and teams.
• You will have experience and skills in the pathway for the management of high suspicion of gynaecological cancer as well as treatment and follow up modalities.
• You may have skills in IT, telephone triage and assessment.
• Current APC, and NZ registration are also a requirement.
