WorkSafe, Mahi Haumaru Aotearoa, was established in 2013 to be the primary regulator for work health and safety. Its main purpose is to promote and contribute to a balanced framework for securing the health and safety of workers and workplaces, as well as the safe supply and use of electricity and gas.

about the role

The Chief Executive (CE) will lead WorkSafe, Mahi Haumaru to perform its main role, which is to influence businesses, with support and involvement from workers, so they can meet their responsibilities and ensure work is healthy and safe. The CE will ensure resources are focussed on where the most serious harm is occurring through the operating pillars of engagement, enforcement and setting and maintaining standards. Importantly, the CE will work closely with the Board, Chair, Minister and government agencies, and engage with key sector partners to improve health and safety outcomes.

To be considered, you will be a proven senior leader who has led an organisation or large-scale business unit. You will be an exceptional people leader bringing empowerment, clarity and energy as well as being performance driven. You will be strategic in your thinking, but also experienced in effectively leading strategy into action and leading change. As a visible leader, you enjoy engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and being political savvy. You must have a strong awareness and understanding of Te Tiriti principles and cultural competency, as well as diversity and inclusion. Your background could include the Government, regulatory, health and safety, or commercial sectors.
