The opportunity - Te Whiwhinga mahi

Our Transport Property Team have fantastic opportunities in either Palmerston North or Napier for Property Acquisition Managers to join our team.

This is a unique opportunity to support the delivery of key disaster recovery works on the East Coast and Coromandel / Hauraki, as well as other major infrastructure projects that will help shape New Zealand into the future by providing a safer and more resilient transport network.

You will focus on ensuring our external suppliers are delivering the performance standards required from their acquisition contracts.

These are pivotal roles where you will be responsible for ensuring that property is acquired for the region's projects in line with the transport project budget and programme and that acquisition is completed in accordance with relevant guidelines and law.

You will also be responsible for leading and engaging with key stakeholders including landowners, Iwi partners, local government agencies and the local community.

You will help drive best practice in property acquisition to continuously improve the way we work and how we support wider Waka Kotahi objectives.

If you are an experienced property professional, and a team player with strong collaboration skills and solutions focus, then this could be the role for you.


Your key accountabilities include:

  • Deliver the Property Acquisition Programme each year within business plan funding to support our State Highways property programmes.
  • Develop property strategies with the Manager Acquisition for all future projects in conjunction with Accredited Suppliers, including a robust acquisition programme(s) and estimated costs, together with appropriate risk mitigation.
  • Manage the agreed acquisition programme budget expenditure in line with approved annual budgets and delegation.
  • Day to day contract management of our LINZ accredited suppliers.
  • Provide property related input to ensure the early identification of the necessary property interests, key programme and reputational risks, and any fatal flaws for all future Projects.



About you - Ko wai tēnei

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Experience in a similar or related property role
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate to achieve results
  • Negotiation skills to assist with managing multi-party issues and/or difficult relationships
  • A relevant tertiary qualification
  • Knowledge and experience of the Public Works Act 1981 will be beneficial (although not essential).
