Mō te tūranga - About the role

The Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability Service provides comprehensive assessment and treatment programmes in a range of general and specialist inpatient and community services for people with severe mental health disorders within the Otago region. Services range from secure inpatient facilities to community-based mental health centres. Regional services are provided for inpatient forensic services and inpatient intellectual disability services covering Otago.

In this position you will effectively contribute to the smooth running of the Psychiatric Records Department by providing an efficient and timely administrative support function that is responsive and flexible to the changing needs of the service. This position will respond to varied and sometimes challenging information enquiries from internal and external providers such as Patients and whanau, Clinicians/SMO's, Oranga Tamariki, ACC, Lawyers, Coroners and other Health Agencies.

The information you are trusted to handle is wide-ranging, confidential and often sensitive such as patient files and medical records, and information requests.

We are looking for an experienced administrator who is adept at processing information and able to work with a high level of confidentiality while handling personal information professionally.

Ideally, you will bring the following skills and experience:

  • Previous experience in a busy administration role
  • Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (e-mail)
  • High standard of interpersonal communication skills, including written and verbal
  • Ability to work well in a team and foster good interpersonal relationships
  • Working knowledge of the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights, the Health Information Privacy Code and other legislation covering the release of information would be an advantage

Utu whānui - Salary range

This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the PSA South Island Clerical Multi-Employer Collective Agreement and the salary will be in accordance with the National Health Administration Workers Pay Scale, Band 5D between Step 1 $74,090 and Step 3 $77,200 p.a pro rata dependant on relevant experience.
